Shell
Enhancing offshore risk mitigation with Youreka.
Summary
Stuck on pen and paper, Shell’s data collection process was cumbersome — delaying access into insights about their workers’ health and safety. Shell needed real-time data to support improved risk mitigation and keep health and safety a top priority.

The Challenge
Shell relies on critical Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) data to get their employees home safely every day. Manually-reported HSSE audits took weeks to upload and review — leaving their workforce exposed to avoidable risk.
Choosing Salesforce as a strategic data management platform, Shell needed a smart, mobile data collection tool that would:
- turn every field worker into a health and safety expert.
- scale new processes and automate workflows — online and offline.
- improve visibility into upstream threats for more effective response efforts.
- digitize reporting and automate procedures to implement timely interventions.
Our Solution
Working with Synaptic Advisors — a Salesforce implementation partner — we designed a new data collection and management system built around Youreka. SOAR (Safety Observation and Reporting) is a dynamic and user-friendly reporting tool that uses our Salesforce-native, offline mobile forms to get critical data to the people who need it most.
Leveraging Salesforce Einstein, SOAR enhances reporting, analytics, and graphing capabilities, and supports the creation of custom dashboards for site admins. It also transposes data across systems using APIs and third-party integrations to tools like Cyberhawk, a drone-based inspection technology and visualization software.
By seamlessly compiling observation data, SOAR users can track HSSE performance, pinpoint areas for improvement, and reduce the risk of incidents around the world.
The Result
With a successful deployment of SOAR across three continents, Shell has experienced zero “near miss” safety reports — and their HSSE data reports have increased exponentially, from a few hundred a year to 14,000 in the year since deployment. With plans to expand SOAR to more locations and languages, we’re excited to continue supporting Shell and their global workers — helping them stay safe in the field.
